Cyclocross Racing- Red Rocks Velo Series

These are pictures of my son's first Cyclocross race. I am so impressed with him. Cyclocross is a butt-kicking kind of sport. You are on a cross bike. This means a cross between a road bike (we used to call them 10 speeds) and a mountain bike. The junior race lasts for at least 30 minutes. That is, after the leader had raced for 30 minutes, s/he finishes that lap and everyone else finishes the one they are on. Part of CX racing is that it includes multiple envirnoments (in this case asphalt, gravel, and dirt (which is often mud, due to the season)). It also includes shelping your bike over at least six obsticles. Ethan was lucky enough to get this gorgeous bike through the American Cycling Organization First Bike program. I can hardly thank them enough for making this possible for my wonderful boy. Currently he is learning to "bunny hop." This means that you cause your bike to "jump" while you are on it. Can you imagine doing that? My hobbit like body is far from that kind of thrill. Go Cyclers!
